Access to the Region's Core Study
Interactive Elements developed and administered the public outreach program for a study of expanding commuter rail capacity to midtown Manhattan from Queens, Long Island, and New Jersey. The study was sponsored by a joint venture partnership between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, New York's MTA, and New Jersey Transit. A number of alternatives were examined, including an additional rail tunnel under the Hudson River, expansion of New York's Pennsylvania Station, and connections between that station and Grand Central Terminal. As such, it has the potential to connect the nation's largest rail facilities and influence the commuting of millions of daily riders. The outreach program was designed to meet the public communications priorities of federal, state, and local agencies and involve the public at large in the planning process.
