Signal System Design Standards

Client:NYCT
 New York, NY

As part of a major review of the existing conditions of the signal system of the nation's largest rail transit system, Interactive Elements, as a subcontractor to Parsons Brinckerhoff, prepared a computerized database of the physical characteristics of the signal system of the NYCT Subway. Responsibilities included performing train performance calculations; documenting signal locations that were out of compliance with current standards; and providing recommendations and prioritizations for improvement. The firm was also responsible for writing the final signal standards design philosophy document. This project was one of several major new technology signal initiatives that the firm participated in for NYCT. Others included the design of the NYCT's new CBTC (communications-based train control) signal system and of its Rail Control Center, which provides NYCT with the ability to monitor and control train movements from a central location.  [384]
