Park Avenue Viaduct Rehabilitation
As a subcontractor to Steinman Boynton Gronquist & Birdsall (now Parsons), Interactive Elements provided a variety of support activities during the renovation of Metro-North Railroad's Park Avenue Viaduct and 125th Street Station Complex. Our work included: rail operations coordination to minimize interference with rail service (the viaduct carries over 500 trains per day into and out of Grand Central Terminal on just four tracks); community and public outreach, a critical component of the work because the project was carried out in a densely populated area of Manhattan with a large bi-lingual community (the firms published a quarterly Spanish-English community newsletter). Other activities included track outage planning and security reviews of designs (including CPTED - Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) for the station which included a police facility.
