Subway Car Acceleration and Emergency Braking Standards
In response to the 1995 Williamsburg Bridge accident, Interactive Elements was retained to assess the effectiveness of safe braking distance measurement at NYCT. The firm reviewed written protocols and attended NYCT-sponsored field tests of acceleration and emergency braking. IEI reviewed measurement techniques, acquisition of data, analysis of results, and reporting. The firm evaluated these processes and prepared a final report that included recommendations for improvements, including the need to codify the processes into new formal protocols.
