East River Crossing Study

Interactive Elements worked under LSTS (now Systra) to study all of the rail transit crossings between Brooklyn and Manhattan for NYCT. These crossings are some of the most heavily traveled segments of the nation's busiest rail transit system. The project was crucial to New York City's successful efforts to improve the structural integrity of the East River Bridges while still allowing adequate rail transit across the river. The firm's responsibilities included taking an inventory of existing conditions; analyzing schedules, running times, and ridership statistics; identifying constraints and operating conflicts; and developing operational options for service improvements. IEI also created and executed the project's public outreach program to keep local stakeholders informed and insure compliance with federal NEPA requirements.  [380]
