Wood-Ridge Maintenance Facility Rehabilitation Design
Interactive Elements, as subcontractor to ICF Kaiser Engineers (now AECOM), was responsible for industrial engineering; facility security; and rail safety training during the rehabilitation of the Wood-Ridge Maintenance Facility, the maintenance base for NJ Transit's fleet of self-propelled, rail-borne track maintenance equipment. The facility includes offices, shop work spaces, and materials storage for several railroad maintenance departments. The scope of the rehabilitation included re-design of work flow, new heating and ventilation systems, a new roof, repairs to the exterior walls, upgraded electrical systems, and removal of hazardous materials. A more efficient use of space was achieved through consolidation of storage areas, construction of a loading dock, and site improvements, including parking for employee and company vehicles and a new rail storage yard.
