Study of Wheel Truing Practices

As part of a larger effort to improve maintenance productivity and reduce track and vehicle maintenance costs at NYCT, Interactive Elements surveyed and compared the wheel truing practices at all three MTA rail operating agencies (NYCT, Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North). The work involved developing criteria for evaluating wheel truing practices and a field inspection manual for use by NYCT staff. The firm conducted interviews of key personnel at each railroad, observed shop operations, and reviewed standards and procedures.  [303]
